I really have learned to hate any holiday. Basically because all the stupid people that usually stay home come and make the world an even more dangerous place to live in. I drove limos and other vehicles for 20 years. The worst driving always took place on holidays. Then there is the fact that ever business that is open and all public places are packed to the gills with drunken idiots. Luckily, ont he 4th, I am able to sit on my dock and watch the major fireworks display in town from the safety of my own property.

The whole outrage over Gen Clark's statements is just silly. He is absolutely correct. The fact that John McCain was a prisoner of war does not mean he has foreign affairs experience. That's like saying a conicted criminal that goes to prison has public policy experience. McCain was stuck in a small cell for 5 years. Not a good thing. How does this make him an expert on foreign policy? He wasn't negotiating with foreign leaders or doing other things that are required to gain any sort of foreign policy.

the other interesting thing about McCain's campaign is that he has one of the Swift Boat losers on his campaign staff. Guess we can get ready for another round nasty lies from the Republicans and those who support McCain.

Bush proves once again that he is all about big oil. He has now called for a halt to research into solar energy. How incredibly reatarded is this at a time when we seriously need to ween ourselves off oil and other fossil fuels and develope new alternatives?

How anyone can think Bush has done a good job is beyond me. As recent polls show, 28% of Americans are complete and utter fucking idiots

Last nights incident where the umpire got a nasty cut from a broken bat highlighted just how dangerous current bats are. I've never been a fan of the thin handled bats that players use today. The theory being that the thin handle gives them more whip action when they swing the bat. I remember reading somewhere that someone did a study on whether this was actualyl true or not and they found that the whip effect was neglegible. MLB needs change the rule for minimum thickness of bats and make them much thicker. If something isn't done soon, someone, a player, ump or fan is going to get seriously hurt. If that happens the Players Association and MLB will fully resposible since they have the ability to make the change now, but don't seem too interested.

Personally, I think the MLBPA needs to be reigned in. Common sense has complete left the group and something needs to be done. So what if it might decrease HRs. I find them boring and anticlimatic.

The day did not start good today. The first thing I heard when I turned on the TV this morning was that George Carlin had passed away. Carlin was the greatest comedian ever to grace this planet. When I was a kid, I bought his album Class Clown for the Seven Dirty Words You Can't Say On Televeision. I was 12 at the time and my mom freaked, but she let me keep it. I eventually bought everything he ever put out.

Carlin had a huge impact on the way I looked at words and the way I use them. I also loved his social commentary in his routines. My persoanl favorite was about the death penalty. In a nutshell he felt it was misapplied. Since murder is generally a crime of passion, people don't think about the fact that they will get the death sentence for what they are about to do. Instead, the death penalty should be applied to white collar crime. His thought being that if you kill of a few corporate execs for raping and plundering people's savings and futures, then others will be less likely to it because white collar crime is something that is very methodical and well thought out. You can't claim you did it in the heat of passion and didn't have time to think about the consequenses.

George's humor and outlook on life will be sorely missed.
